Chief Election Commissioner, N. Gopalaswamy, announced the dates for the Lok Sabha elections. The elections will be held in five phases and first phase will begin on April 16 and conclude on May 13. The dates of the phases are Phase one on April 16 (124 constituencies), phase two on April 23 (141 seats), phase three on April 30(107 seats), phase four on May 7 (85 constuencies) and phase five on May 13(86 seats). UP and J&K will have a five phase election, while Bihar will have a 4-phase election. Voters in Maharashtra and West Bengal will vote in three phases and in 2 phases in Andhra, Assam and Orissa.
The counting will take place on May 16 and the next government will be constituted on June 2.
The CEC also announced that State Assembly elections will be held simultaneously in Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and Sikkim
714 million people are eligible to vote in this election.

April 16 - Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Andaman and Nicobar Island, Lakshadweep.
April 23 - Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Goa, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Orissa, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.
April 30 - Bihar, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Dadar and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
May 7 - Bihar, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, westbengal and Delhi.
May 13 - Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Chandigargh and Puducherry
